Thursday, October 14, 2004 ![]() Forum Discussion with Minister... Ok, i just got back from the forum discussion with the minister, 2 and a half hours. There were other students, representatives from Junior colleges, NUS, NTU, SMU and all the polytechnics. The question of the forum was.. Are Singapore's youth apathethic? Although i didnt actively participate in the forum by giving my own opinion and such, however, the JC student were the one, actively participating. They were the one who provided opinions on many issues, like politics, freedom of speech, education and the likes. I wouldnt say its boring, because this is my first time attending such forum discussion. On the plus side, i think, after attending this forum discussion, it has provided me with a greater insight on some of the concerns youth's face ragarding the government of singapore and also provided me an alternative perspective on what the government is doing for the country with the current challenges that singapore is going through. Since the main topic was about how apathetic singapore's youths are nowadays, alot of issues were discusses and analysed. For example, many issues like whether education the government has structured for the country is the cause for our apathetic attitude towards singapore as a whole, or whether politics is playing a part. Issues like freedom of speech and elections and also how to bind singapore's youth together for a common cause at this point of time when we often takes things for granted, can come about. Nothing much to say besides that. However, before i went to singapore polytechnic for the forum discussion, my dad took me to BioPolis which was quite near the school and i had alot of time before the registration starts. So when i got there, OMG!!! Its sooo freaking impressive. Its really a world class, life sciences hub!! There are soo many buildings that houses all the labs of different companies that have moved in like Novartis and Glaxosmithkline!! When we enter the compound of the all the buildings, the first sign i saw on one of the buildings was Novartis! So big and grand. The building is quite an art and its really nice looking. There are many buildings and they name all the building uniquely, like Proteas, Chromos, Matrix and Nanos. When you get to the heart of the all the buildings, and you look up, you can see lots of skybridges linking to other buildings, all made of glass! And you look up, its like a city within a city. The first floor, has all the cafes, and restaurants and eating outlet and its like Shenton Way, minus the tall buildings. OMG!! I was soo impressed! After seeing the place with my own eyes, im certain that one of my long term goals of my career is to work in biopolis, in any one of the life sciences companies that have moved in to the BioPolis or any other future companies that are going to move in. Besides, they are still expanding i think, i can see land making way for future developments. ah... im soo excited and it has given me inspiration to strive so that i can make my dream come true once more. ( the first dream that came true was being in a life science course)
